I started this site with the goal of helping writers help writers.
As an introductory post, I figure now would be a great time to introduce myself and tell you a little more about what I hope to do with this site and where I hope to take it in the future.
My name is Jason Bougger. I grew up in a small town named Brainard, Nebraska and currently live in Omaha with my wonderful wife and kids. I write mostly genre stuff in the speculative realm, including horror, fantasy, and science fiction, but I try to throw in humor when I can and also dabble in YA when it comes to writing novels.
I’ve been writing fiction for just about five years and have published close to twenty short stories in print and online. I played NaNoWriMo three times, and finished it twice. Of those two “finished” novels, I’ve begun the query process on the first, a supernatural YA novel named Holy Fudgesicles and plan to get the second one cleaned up and ready to query in the first half of 2015. You can find out more about me at my author site, which is aptly named JasonBougger.com.
In addition to my own writing, I am also the owner and editor of Theme of Absence, an online magazine of speculative fiction. It’s a token-paying e-zine that publishes original flash fiction, and occasionally longer pieces, every Friday. And it’s a lot of fun, too.
But enough about me. What’s up with WriteGoodBooks.com? Why start yet another site about writing?
It’s simple. Writing is my passion. And if you’re here, I’m assuming it’s yours as well.
Regardless of our genres, styles, or word counts, we’re all writers. And writers need to help each other out. That’s what I want to do here. I’ve learned a lot in the last five years, and for everything I did right, I did two things wrong.
With this site, I hope to not only share what I’ve learned so far to help new writers pick up the basics, but also continue to improve my own writing with what I can learn from you, the readers of this site.
So thanks for stopping by. Feel free to drop me a quick “Hello” in the comments section and check back often as I continue to add content. Also be sure to click the subscribe link on the side menu if you’d like to have new posts delivered to your inbox.
