So I guess I quit writing.
Okay, that’s not really the most accurate way to put it, but I am taking a bit of a break from writing fiction. I suppose that’s strange, considering I took most of the summer off from blogging to work on the first large book of an epic fantasy trilogy.
But things change. New things come up. Priorities change.
And that’s kind of where I’m at right now. Things have changed. Something new came up.
I’m still a writer, and will forever be a writer (at least at heart), but I took on a new project. This new project isn’t exactly writing, but it does allow me to take advantage of the same creative gene that writing does.
And it’s exciting as hell.
I mean it. As in, I’m so excited about this new thing I’m working on, it keeps me up at night.
It’s been a long time since I felt that way about writing fiction. Like I said, I still enjoy writing fiction and will never give that up for good, but a lot of that passion that I had when I first started is just…not there.
Looking back, I haven’t taken a vacation from writing, uh, ever. And so I will for a little while. This new thing I’m working on doesn’t have any defined time frame, nor does it have a deadline, but my plan is to have it completed and public sometime in 2019. I’m pretty much going all-in on it as well, so I will have some news to share about it in the coming weeks.
Until then, what can you expect of me during this little “time off” from writing fiction?
Well, to be honest, not a lot will change. I’ll continue to to take submissions and publish new stories at Theme of Absence. I’ll still post here when I can (yes, I know I haven’t posted in a while and even missed last week’s Five Links Friday). We’ll continue to record new episodes of the Podcast, even though I have missed a few episodes lately.
But that’s about it. Life is always crazy and busy, so sometimes even things like writing have to move to the back of the proverbial priority line for a month or two.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for sticking around. I wish you all the best of luck with your own side projects, and will be back soon.
When have you taken a break from writing fiction? What led you to do so, and how long did that break last?
